WordPress "maintenance mode"?

Hi all! There are a few ways to put your WordPress in "maintenance mode" to update your site (nginx rule to static custom html, edit functions.php, WordPress plugins...) so:
What do you think is the best&clean practice to put your WordPress in maintenance mode?

What are you thinking the use case is for this, beyond the existing built-in method that comes in WordPress core? This mode should only be enabled for a short period of time while performing upgrades (I use a different method of upgrades so WordPress never has to do this, think Docker-like deployments)

@jond1 thanks for reply! I'm thinking in the case of big updates in your theme site or about edit critical content for your audience. I do not use staging page at this moment, so I need to put the maintenance mode for bigs updates.

If there is an update for your theme, you may want to consider doing it on a staging site first, then copying a backup and restoring it in production.

I really like UpdraftPlus for this kind of functionality.

As for "critical content" .. you may want to consider a plugin or a theme specifically for this.

I'm not yet convinced that "maintenance mode" is what you're looking for to accomplish those goals.
