Hi there,
Yesterday, out of the blue (no changes made to site in months), I started getting an ERR_INVALID_REDIRECT
when trying to browse to the homepage for a site set up on WordOps. I can't access the homepage of Wordpress, via my computer, nor via other servers online (I checked, to ensure it wasn't something odd with my computer).
I can, however, access wp-admin
on the site, and seemingly any other page other than the homepage (https://mydomain.com). I've also discovered I can access the homepage when I am logged into Wordpress. But not when logged out.
When I try to access the homepage in Safari, it redirects to https://localhost
, which Safari tells me it can't load (obviously).
Searching online I've found info suggesting one cause of this can be a an issue in the nginx .conf file for the site. One suggestion was to add proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto $scheme;
to the proxy_params. But I see it's already in there.
When this issue arose yesterday, it stopped happening after I rebooted the server. Yet it reoccured again, roughly 24 hours later. This time, rebooting doesn't have any effect.
When I check curl -i https://mydomain.com
I get the following:
HTTP/2 301
server: nginx
date: Thu, 12 May 2022 10:19:58 GMT
content-type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
content-length: 0
location: https:///
x-redirect-by: WordPress
x-powered-by: WordOps
x-frame-options: SAMEORIGIN
x-xss-protection: 1; mode=block
x-content-type-options: nosniff
referrer-policy: no-referrer, strict-origin-when-cross-origin
x-download-options: noopen
x-srcache-fetch-status: HIT
x-srcache-store-status: BYPASS
This suggests to me the homepage has a permanent (301) redirect taking place, and it's redirecting to location https:///
. Which makes no sense to me at all.
Any suggestions on why this might be occurring, or how to troubleshoot it?
