Why port 25 are closed ?

Hi, guys today i have installed a Wordops on a vps, but i have notice that all Wordpress email are not sent, also the script with mail(); function not work.

so i tried to check why, and i have found port 25 are closed look below:

so how how Wordpress can work if port 25 are closed ? how i can open this port ?

Who are you hosting with? They may have the port blocked by default, check their docs/faqs/terms.

WordOps does not natively come with an email service.

I connected Mailgun to my server so it can send out email through it, with Postfix. There are plenty of tutorials you can follow to accomplish this.

So if I understand correctly WordOps offers several Wordpress installations in a single click but then it is not configured to operate the basic system of wordpress emails, like mail(); function ?

The usage of mail() is dependent on a system-level service. It's quite simple to setup your own service, it doesn't need to be provided in WordOps.

"--sendmail" is a default WordOps option for mail server ?

Have you tried it yet? Please do go ahead, maybe I'm wrong. It's happened before.

WordOps uses Sendmail by default (wo stack install installs it - or just adding a WordPress site should install it as a dependency, but I'm not 100% sure on that one). I'm more used to Postfix so use that - but you can use whatever MTA you want of course.
@gringo88 Run wo stack install to be certain you have Sendmail installed. But as I mentioned above it's quite common for hosts to block the port. Who are you hosting with?

Hi, i have already installed sendmail with command wo stack install --sendmail anf now seem that port 25 are opened.

But when i try to send a email with deafult wordpress option or with the wordpress plugin "contact form 7" known that there is a problem, after clicking on the "send mail now" button of the contact form the page remains in charge for a full 1 minute and then I am shown the email sent alert "successful message sent"

after about 15 hours the email was not received either in the email or in the spam box.

In /var/log/php/7.2 never error are displayed, so I don't know what problem it has

This is what i have found in var/log/mail.err:

Apr  4 12:00:01 ubuntu-XXXXX sm-msp-queue[26311]: My unqualified host name (ubuntu-XXXXX) unknown; sleeping for retry
Apr  4 12:00:23 ubuntu-XXXXX sendmail[26279]: unable to qualify my own domain name (ubuntu-XXXXX) -- using short name

Any advice ?

As per the WordOps Documentation, you should have a valid server hostname, proper DNS records (PTR, Reverse DNS) : https://docs.wordops.net/getting-started/prerequesites/#server-configuration-recommendations

However, I use WP SMTP Plugin with Mailgun integration so I never install --sendmail on my servers.

Analyze the content of files in /var/mail/ and you should be able to recognize the issue related to the outgoing e-mails.
